Riordan OKs $4.01-Billion Budget Without Objections

Mayor Richard Riordan decided Tuesday not to challenge the Los Angeles City Council’s recent move to raise its own budget by $1.5 million, instead approving a $4.01-billion city budget without rejecting any items.
“This budget is another big step in the right direction for our city,” Riordan said in a written statement.
On a 14-1 vote, the council last month gave itself a 10% increase, adding $100,000 to each member’s $1-million office budget. The mayor’s office at that time was strongly opposed to the move.
But sources at City Hall said Riordan expected an override and decided not to make an official rejection as part of his broader attempt to smooth relations with the council.
