Latino Conference to Focus on 1998 Election

More than 400 Latino youths and community leaders are expected to attend Latino Vote ‘97, a daylong conference today at the Omni Hotel downtown that will focus on maintaining the upswing in Latino voting participation.

Sponsored by the Southwest Voter Registration Education Project, the conference will cover strategies for mobilizing voters for the 1998 gubernatorial elections.

U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Garden Grove) and state Sen. Richard Polanco (D-Los Angeles) are expected to attend. The conference, held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., is open to the public. Registration is $25.
