A Credit-Conscious Society

There was no whining or crying. There was no boasting or finger pointing. No demeaning of opponents. Instead, the horse racing crowd involved in the Triple Crown demonstrated only integrity, courage and class with a capital C. Touch Gold was the winner of the Belmont Stakes, but the word loser doesn’t really fit here, does it?

Thank you for the terrific coverage leading up to and including this race. Somehow, reading about a Silver Charm does so much more than reading about a Dennis Rodman.

Many of us were disappointed that Silver Charm barely missed winning the Triple Crown. But the real tragedy is the sorrow of Carl Pascarella and Visa USA. We Visa card users are devastated that our company was unable to give away five million of our consumer dollars to Mr. and Mrs. Lewis. Just think, Carl spent all that tax-deductible loot to bring the Visa entourage to the Belmont Stakes and then didn’t have a sports celebrity, man or beast, to hand the money to.

Maybe by next year, Visa USA can hire some Nike Vietnamese girls, cut costs in the USA and offer $10 million to a yet-unknown horse.

When the band didn’t strike up “East Side, West Side” as the horses came on the track for the Belmont Stakes, you knew that Visa’s $5 million was safe.
