From Times staff and wire reports
Earlier estimates of the prevalence of HIV-positive individuals in California were somewhat high, according to new figures from the California Department of Health Services. Using new population data and limited surveys, the team concludes that 94,300 to 130,500 people in the state were HIV-positive on Jan. 1, 1996. Earlier estimates had projected that as many as 175,000 Californians were HIV-positive in 1994.
