Shields Strikes Out 13, Beats Verdugo Hills

Jeremy Shields pitched a three-hitter and struck out 13 for Newhall Saugus in a 13-0 District 20 victory over Verdugo Hills on Thursday at Canyon High.
Chris Wright had three hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs for Newhall Saugus (8-4), which scored eight runs in the seventh inning.
Studio City North 4, Panorama City 3--Chris Cervantes pitched a six-hitter, striking out nine for Studio City North in a District 20 game at Sylmar High.
Cervantes (3-1) added two hits and Sam Ponce had two RBIs for Studio City North (8-3).
Valencia 5, San Fernando 1--Bucky Downs had two hits for Valencia (5-5) in a District 20 game at San Fernando High.
North Hollywood East 15, Agoura Oaks 11--Matt Berkson, Adam Siegel and Jay Levine each had three hits for North Hollywood East in a District 20 game at Agoura High.
Matt Felder had a three-run double for North Hollywood East.
Royal 4, Simi Valley 1--Brett Wayne had two doubles, two RBIs and scored two runs for Royal (5-1) in a District 16 game at Royal High.
Mike Byer pitched three hitless innings, Russell O’Brien (1-0) pitched two shutout innings and Bob Egan, who also had two hits, earned his first save, striking out the side in the seventh for Royal.
Moorpark 7, Newbury Park 7--Trailing, 5-0, Newbury Park rallied in a District 16 game halted by darkness after nine innings at Newbury Park High.
Anthony Foli had three hits and four RBIs, and Joey Hamer added three hits, including a double, and scored three runs for Newbury Park (6-4-1).
Tim McLain had a grand slam and a two-run double, and Zack Greene added three hits for Moorpark (4-6-1).
