4.3 Temblor Hits Near Ridgecrest

A magnitude 4.3 earthquake shook a desert area outside the Kern County town of Ridgecrest on Thursday--one of numerous moderate quakes in that area over the past two years, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The 10:49 a.m. temblor was centered 12 miles north of Ridgecrest within the China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station and only two miles from the epicenter of a 5.8 quake that occurred Sept. 20, 1995. No damage or injuries were reported from the latest quake.
Seismologist Lucy Jones said Thursday’s jolt should be considered one in a continuing series of temblors in the area near the Coso range, and was not considered an aftershock.
