LANCASTER — The Lancaster JetHawks played home-run derby with Modesto A’s and won the California League game, 12-8, Friday before a record crowd of 7,024 at Lancaster Municipal Stadium.
Eight home runs were hit in the game, four by each team. Left-fielder Yuni Kim belted his 11th and 12th homers and four RBIs to lead a 12-hit attack by the JetHawks (43-42, 10-5 in the second half). Juan Dilone homered in consecutive at bats for first-place Modesto (43-42, 11-4).
Neither JetHawk starter Damaso Marte nor A’s starter Flint Wallace survived the third inning. Left-hander Jason Bond(1-5) got the win by allowing two runs on two hits in 3 2/3 innings after replacing Marte.
With temperatures eclipsing the 100-degree mark and a stiff breeze blowing from left to right field, the two teams combined for 13 extra-base hits.
The offensive fireworks started in the bottom of the first, when JetHawk leadoff batter Joe Mathis hit the second pitch from Wallace over the right-center field wall.
With Kim added a two-run shot later in the inning, Lancaster jumped out to a 3-0 lead.
Kim homered again in the third inning, as did Jason Regan.
