Party’s Over for Mickey’s Halloween Treat

McDonald’s might be coming, but Disneyland’s Halloween celebration is going, going, gone.
After just two years of operation, Disneyland officials have scrapped Mickey’s Halloween Treat, a scare-free, candy-laden Halloween event geared to young children.
The park launched the four-day celebration in 1995 as a way to gain a foothold in the lucrative Halloween market, and even expanded it to five nights last year. It required a separate admission and was held after the park’s regular hours.
Disneyland officials say they’ll still break out the pumpkins but plan on bringing more entertainment to guests during normal operating hours.
“There will still be Halloween at Disneyland,” McClintock said. “We’re just not going to do something on that scale for the foreseeable future.”
Translation: Mickey was no match for the big ghouls at Knott’s Berry Farm, whose blood-curdling Halloween Haunt plays to sellout crowds each year and remains the undisputed champion of October thrills.
