Cal Lutheran Has Plenty of Options in 6-1 Victory

The Cal Lutheran women’s soccer team got goals from six players en route to a 6-1 victory over Occidental in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams Wednesday at Cal Lutheran.
Heidi Theis scored 47 seconds into the match for her first goal of the season. She later assisted on Chayna Manning’s first goal of the season. Holly Roepke added a goal and two assists for the Royals (2-2).
Kim Holeman scored her third goal. Occidental drops to 0-3.
Southern California College 2, The Master’s 0--Jamie Gardner and Ganessa Cobb scored first-half goals for host Southern California College (5-2) in a nonconference match.
Rachel Gassaway made two saves for the Mustangs (3-3), who were outshot, 17-2.
MEN’S WATER POLO
Ventura 20, Pierce 6--Bill Bruininga, a Royal High graduate, had five points for Ventura (9-2) in a Western State Conference opener at Ventura. Eleven players scored for Ventura, ranked fourth in the state.
Cuesta 11, Valley 10--The Monarchs (6-3, 0-1) held a 5-0 lead in the first quarter, but could not hold on in a WSC match at Valley College.
Mike Scarcelli, from Crespi, had seven points for Valley. Rick Bejune, also from Crespi, led Cuesta with three points.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Westmont d. Cal Lutheran, 15-0, 15-8, 15-10--Dana Nehrenz had nine kills and Katy Wilson added seven for the Warriors (10-2) in a SCIAC match at Cal Lutheran. Freshman Lauren McCartin from Saugus High had seven kills for the Regals, who had a hitting percentage of minus .015.
Golden West d. Moorpark, 15-6, 15-6, 15-8--Carrie Swartz had 10 kills and Jolene Small had six kills for the Raiders (0-1) in a nonconference match at home.
