A Compton woman was killed and her 11-year-old son was wounded early Wednesday when gang members opened fire on them in an apparent case of mistaken identity, authorities said.
Sheriff’s officials identified the woman as Erminia Ramirez, 32, who with her son were “innocent targets of gang warfare.” A van carrying Ramirez, her son, two other women and another child stopped at a home in the 3500 block of Mulford Avenue in Lynwood shortly after midnight, investigators said.
As Ramirez and her child got out of the van and walked toward the residence, a light-colored, four-door sedan pulled up and gunfire erupted, deputies said.
Ramirez was struck several times in the upper body. She was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her son was shot in the right thigh and right foot. The van’s driver, a 33-year-old Lynwood woman, was grazed on the right side of her head. They were listed in stable condition. The other passengers were not injured in the attack.
