Ma Injures Knee in Matador Victory

Cal State Northridge beat Weber State, 15-4, 15-5, 15-9, in a Big Sky Conference women’s volleyball match Saturday at Northridge, but the Matadors had to do it without outside hitter Nancy Ma.
Ma, who leads the team in kills, injured her right knee in the second game and left the match. She returned to the bench on crutches late in the third game and will be further examined this week. Ma had five kills and five digs.
Middle blocker Crystal Newquist led the Matadors (9-4, 3-1 in conference play) with 16 kills and 11 digs.
MEN’S WATER POLO
Pepperdine 11, UC Irvine 4--Alan Herrmann scored four goals for the top-ranked Waves (9-0) in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opener at Irvine.
Cypress tournament--John Conrad and Jason Payne each scored 10 goals in three games to help Valley (10-4) to the championship. The Monarchs beat Riverside, 12-10, in the final.
MEN’S CROSS-COUNTRY
Golden Coast Invitational--Julio Serratos of Glendale recorded his fourth victory in four races this season and teammate Rafael Ramos finished seventh, but the Vaqueros placed second behind San Diego Mesa at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa.
Serratos clocked 20:20 over the four-mile course and Ramos ran 20:54.
MEN’S SOCCER
The Master’s 1, BYU-Hawaii 0--Jared Kira scored from 10 yards out at the 28-minute mark to lift the host Mustangs (5-5) in a nonconference match.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Pepperdine 3, Hawaii 1--Jennifer Peterson scored two goals.
