The Carson/Lomita/Torrance Private Industry Council received the funds from the state Employment Development Department. The grant will support the Harbor IX Project, which provides employment services to workers recently laid off from local businesses.
The program will provide services such as recruitment and job search and skills assessment workshops. In addition, the organization will provide vocational training, basic skills remediation and on-the-job training.
Training is available in several occupational areas, including computer applications, operation, programming and repair; auto mechanics; pharmacy; alcohol/drug counseling; medical assistance; air conditioning and heating technology; floor-laying; commercial banking; welding; and telephone maintenance.
