Conference Aims to Spark Interest in Math, Science

Loyola Marymount University will host a conference Saturday aimed at fueling the interest of girls in math and science through a series of workshops and introductions from women who work in traditionally male occupations.
The conference for girls in the sixth through 10th grade will include presentations from a flavor chemist who will explain how food is processed to ensure that consumers have nutritional and tasty food, an interior designer, geoscientist, roboticist and investment counselor.
Other topics include map making, women mathematicians and occupational therapy.
The conference is scheduled from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Pereira Hall on the campus, 7900 Loyola Blvd.
