David Grossman; WWII Submariner, Social Security Worker

David Grossman, 86, World War II submarine noncommissioned officer and civil servant. A career sailor who became a chief petty officer, Grossman served in the Navy from 1929 until 1951. During the war, he torpedoed enemy ships in the Aleutian, Midway and Marshall islands. Later, using the GI Bill, Grossman studied economics at Columbia University and USC. He worked 20 years for the Social Security Administration in Hollywood, where he called his colleagues shipmates and regaled them with stories of his naval adventures. On Saturday in Los Angeles.
