Vigilantes Can’t Overcome an Early Deficit

Pitcher Carlos Castillo gave up two runs in the third inning for Mission Viejo Saturday night, and the Western Warriors went on to a 5-2 victory in front of an announced crowd of 2,723 at Saddleback College.
Carter Masterson’s double drove in the game’s first run and Lino Connell’s groundout scored the second. The Warriors (13-9) loaded the bases with none out in the fifth against reliever Chad Wanders, but scored only once.
Phil Kernan drove in both runs for the Vigilantes (10-12) with a single in the sixth and a sacrifice fly in the eighth to make the score 3-2. A two-run home run by David Sanchez in the ninth inning provided the final score.
Keith Barnes (4-5) gave up three hits in 7 2/3 innings for the victory. He struck out six and walked two. John Mahlberg picked up his second save.
Castillo (0-1) gave up two hits, struck out two and walked none in three innings.
