A Blast From the Past

It was great reading about Robert Ward and the Santa Ana Winds youth band (“Gone With the Winds,” by Debra J. Hotaling, So SoCal, June 28). I was a member in the early ‘80s, and I’ll never forget those July 4th parades. My two friends and I would drive through rush hour traffic from Hawthorne all the way to Santa Ana every Monday evening for rehearsals. There was another group that drove all the way from Ventura to Santa Ana three times a week to march with the Winds. I’m glad to know that this marching band continues to be a positive activity that youths can participate in.
