Hospital Officials to Discuss Plans for New Facility

Officials at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center will hold a public meeting tonight to discuss earthquake-repair plans and a proposal to build a parking structure near the hospital.
The center, which sustained $96 million damage in the 1994 Northridge earthquake, plans to replace one of its two patient care buildings with a 280-bed, 320,000-square-foot facility, said UCLA spokeswoman Carol Magnuson.
The replacement is expected to cost $130 million, she said.
The center also plans to build a four-story parking garage on a hospital-owned lot on 16th Street, she said.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the hospital’s Les Kelley Auditorium, 1255 15th St.
