Katzenmoyer Needs Grades

Ohio State All-American linebacker Andy Katzenmoyer must pass classes in music, golf and AIDS awareness this summer to be academically eligible to play in the coming season.

Katzenmoyer is shy of the required 2.0 grade-point average, and he is joined by All-Big Ten safety Damon Moore and second-team all-conference offensive guard Rob Murphy on the academic deficiency list at Columbus.

“I had a lot of personal problems in the winter and spring that caused my grades to go down,” Katzenmoyer said. “I screwed up in the winter and spring, so now I’ve got to put my time in.”

Katzenmoyer, a 6-foot-4, 255-pound junior, pleaded no contest in March to a drunken-driving charge after he was cited for speeding and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.133%. The legal limit in Ohio is 0.10% and the legal drinking age is 21; Katzenmoyer is 20.

A federal grand jury in Chicago wants to see records and videotapes concerning Northwestern football games, WLS-TV reported, citing unidentified sources. The report said the grand jury has issued subpoenas for records and videos involving several games in 1994, the year before Northwestern’s Rose Bowl season.

Tailback Cecil Collins, dismissed from the Louisiana State football team in June after being charged with unlawful entry and sexual battery, has transferred to Division I-AA McNeese State. . . . Eddie Robinson, who led Grambling State to 408 wins over a 55-year career, was among 25 former players and coaches enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame.
