Dennis-Smith Combo Works for Cleveland

Kent Dennis and Brian Smith combined for 43 points and 26 rebounds and Cleveland downed Bishop Amat, 76-69, in the opening round of the Beverly Hills tournament.
Dennis finished with 23 points and Smith had 17 rebounds for the Cavaliers (2-0). Kenny Mason had 12 points and 11 assists for Cleveland.
Newbury Park 77, Oak Park 44--Nick Czernek scored 16 points and Brian Bobik added 12 for the Panthers (1-0), who took command early in a pool-play game in the Thousand Oaks tournament.
Bobik also had six rebounds, seven steals and four assists. Oak Park (1-2) led 6-5, but Newbury Park went on a 13-1 run to close out the first quarter and never trailed again.
Crespi 93, Highland 61--Crespi took a 19-2 lead and breezed in the first round of the Thousand Oaks tournament.
Marcin Jagoda and Tim McDonough each had 15 points to lead the Celts (1-0). Mike Luderer had 14 points.
Mike Kennedy had 13 points for Highland (2-3).
Burroughs 73, Glendale 51--Kevin Krose and Brian Lee combined to score 18 of Burroughs’ 23 points in the third quarter and the Indians (2-2) won a nonleague game at Glendale.
Krose finished with 25 points and nine rebounds and Lee had18 points.
Beverly Hills 57, Birmingham 53--Birmingham pulled to within 49-48 on a three-point shot by Derek Tucker with 2:30 to play, but Beverly Hills hit five consecutive free throws to seal the first-round win in its own tournament.
Billy Smith led the Normans (1-4) with 21 points. Mshak Ghazarian had 16 points for Birmingham (0-2).
Faith Baptist 51, Oakwood 49--Stephan Grassu made four of six free throws in the fourth quarter and finished with 22 points and Jeremy Lopez hit a clutch three-point shot in overtime to help the Contenders (1-1) win a first-round game in the Milken tournament.
Grassu also had 21 rebounds. Stan Muggrave had 19 points for Oakwood (2-2).
St. Bonaventure 74, Villanova 33--Michael Emard had 20 points and Michael Perez had 16 for the Seraphs, who improved to 5-0 with a nonleague victory at St. Bonaventure.
David Berglund had 12 points and 11 rebounds for St. Bonaventure. Perez had seven steals and five assists.
Corona Del Mar 69, Valencia 58--Eskias McDaniels had a career-high 27 points and 15 rebounds but turnovers cost Valenica (2-1) in the opening round of the Century tournament.
