For the last four years, Eric Boyd trekked from Inglewood to Placentia for the kids. Every day he lent a hand, from developing programs for underprivileged youths to turning around the dour financial situation of the local YMCA. So when Boyd stepped down as executive director of the Placentia-Yorba Linda YMCA, more than 100 volunteers and members of the YMCA attended his farewell party last week.

The city will also say goodbye to Boyd on Wednesday night. The City Council will present him with an award for his service to the community at the last council meeting of the year, 7:30 p.m. at 401 E. Chapman Ave.
