The United States won’t get swept in curling’s debut as an Olympic medal sport.

The American women and men both were 0-2 in the eight-team round robin competition until finally winning Tuesday. The women beat Germany, 8-5, in the first of two women’s matches scheduled for the U.S on Tuesday, and the men defeated Norway, 7-6.

In the second women’s match, played Tuesday night, the U.S. struggled again, losing, 8-5, to Britain after falling behind by 5-0 after only three ends.

The U.S. women are 1-3 in the seven-match round-robin portion of the eight-team first round. The top four teams advance to the semifinals.
