Re “Clinton Unveils Tax-Credit Plan for Child Care,” Jan. 8: If President Clinton truly believed child-rearing were our No. 1 priority, he wouldn’t offer financial incentives for parents to spend less time with their children. His plan is a forcible transfer of wealth from home-based parents (who sacrifice income to work at home) to two-income couples with kids in day care.
Like the public-school monopoly, the plan shows how government expansion undermines free choice. If you use corporate day care, the government will pay for it. If you stay home, you’re on your own--but with a higher tax bill.
