United to Expand Its Terminals at LAX

Citing its strong growth at Los Angeles International Airport, United Airlines said it plans a $200-million renovation and expansion of its Terminals 6 and 7, along with the terminal for Shuttle by United. United, the primary unit of Elk Grove Township, Ill.-based UAL Corp., said construction will take 18 months and include interior renovations, a streamlined security-clearance checkpoint and an upgraded domestic baggage-claim area. United--the largest carrier at LAX, where it serves more than 40,000 passengers daily--said it hired the Irvine firm HNTB Corp. for the project’s construction.
