EAU CLAIRE, Mich. — Some families eat together, play together or pray together.
The Krause family of Saunders, Ariz., spits together.
Brian Krause, 20, beat his father’s record to take the championship Saturday at the 25th Annual International Cherry Pit Spit, with a 72-foot, 11-inch spit of a pit.
Rick Krause, 44, had held the North American spit record of 72 feet, 7 1/2 inches since 1988, and was 10-time champion of the event. He finished second this year, with a spit of 69 feet, 3 inches. His wife, Marlene, has won the women’s contest twice.
