Re “Judge Faults EPA Findings on Secondhand Smoke Impact,” July 19: The tobacco industry knew what it was doing filing its suit in a North Carolina court.
Dozens of scientific bodies have supported the Environmental Protection Agency’s findings, including California’s EPA, which went beyond the U.S. EPA’s report on respiratory disease and implicated secondhand smoke in heart disease. Try selling this one to the hundreds of thousands of adults suffering in their workplaces (mostly not in California) because of their co-workers’ smoking and the thousands of asthmatic children visiting emergency rooms because of smoking at home.
