A billing clerk for a Long Beach trucking firm was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty Monday to tax evasion and embezzling from her employer, authorities said.
Lisa M. Orr, 25, was ordered by Long Beach Municipal Judge Richard Lyman Jr. to repay $261,000 to Three Rivers Trucking Co., said Denise Azimi, a spokeswoman for the California Franchise Tax Board.
Azimi said the state will sue Orr for the $50,000 she owes in back taxes, penalties and interest.
Orr worked for Three Rivers from 1992 to 1997, and was responsible for preparing checks for company officials to sign, Azimi said. In 1993, when Three Rivers gave her authority to sign the company’s checks, Orr began making checks out to herself and depositing them in her account, Azimi said.
