ACAPULCO — Attackers believed to be members of a leftist rebel group ambushed a police patrol in the southern state of Guerrero, killing one police officer, authorities said Thursday.
About a dozen suspected members of the Popular Revolutionary Army, known as the EPR, attacked the six-member police patrol Wednesday near Tlalchapa, about 110 miles north of Acapulco.
The attackers wore uniforms similar to those of the EPR rebels, a group that has mounted recent attacks in Guerrero and neighboring Oaxaca state despite government claims that their strength has been greatly reduced because of arrests.
