Quality Systems Inc.: The Tustin provider of computer-based management and records systems for medical and dental group practices reported a fourth-quarter net loss of $2.5 million, or 41 cents a share, which included a charge of $5.5 million for research and development costs acquired by the company. Net income for the fourth quarter of the prior fiscal year totaled $220,000, or 4 cents a share. Revenue for the quarter ended March 31 rose 48% to a record $9 million from $6.1 million.
For the year, the company lost $4.6 million, or 77 cents a share, compared with a net loss of $7.5 million, or $1.26 a share, for the previous year. There was a charge of $10.2 million for purchased in-process research and development for fiscal 1998 and $8.3 million for the previous year. Revenue increased 55% to $31.2 million from $20.1 million.
