City Cancels Extended Friday Bus Service

A pilot program that three years ago began offering Friday night bus service in Camarillo has been canceled by the City Council.
The bus service, which originally ran from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, had been extended to 8 p.m. on Fridays.
The service includes Camarillo Area Transit and Dial-a-Ride.
Adding an extra 2 1/2 hours of service was meant to encourage additional ridership among the elderly. But ridership on Friday nights was only about one or two passengers, with trips ending by 6 p.m.
By voting Wednesday to cut the extended service on Fridays beginning July 3, the city will save about $4,700 per year, officials said.
