Medic Alert

A warning to seniors when cruising: Recently, my husband and I cruised the Caribbean. My husband became seriously ill. He received the best of care by the ship’s doctor and nurses, all from England. The bill: $2,000. We had purchased medical coverage, which kicked in only if the patient is taken ashore. Medicare refused to cover our expenses, so our supplemental also would not cover, because Medicare would not. The reason: The ship is of foreign registry and the doctors not American.
