Isadore Tivin, a Ventura resident and longtime draftsman for Lockheed Corp., died Thursday after a long illness. He was 90.
Born March 6, 1907, in Chicago, Tivin was a volunteer soldier in the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s. He moved to Los Angeles during World War II and worked in the military aircraft industry.
After the war, he was employed by several aircraft makers, spending 20 years with Lockheed. In his spare time, he coached basketball and football in Los Angeles schools.
He spent much of his retirement volunteering to help youth, tutoring youngsters in math and assisting at nursery schools. One of his favorite pastimes was reading. Before moving to Ventura six years ago, he lived in Santa Monica.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl, of Ventura; two sons, Lawrence of Ventura and Paul of Hartford, Conn.; two brothers, Michael and Edward of Chicago; four grandsons and one granddaughter.
At his request, no services are planned. His ashes are to be scattered at sea.
