Playa Del Rey St. Bernard 57, Santa Ana Calvary Chapel 52--Shannon Howell, a 5-8 sophomore and a 49% three-point shooter, made five three-point baskets and scored 22 points to lead top-ranked St. Bernard at the Pyramid.
It was St. Bernard’s second consecutive title and fifth in the 1990s, but the Vikings (25-2) had to come from behind to win this one. Calvary Chapel (24-6) led by 11 points in the third quarter.
DIVISION IV-A
Cypress Brethren Christian 44, Cerritos Valley Christian 37--Brethren forward Cindy Oparah grabbed a rebound and tied the score, 32-32, with a layup with 15 seconds left in regulation at the Pyramid and Brethren (19-10) went on to beat Valley Christian (23-7) in overtime.
DIVISION V-AA
Palos Verdes Peninsula Chadwick 52, Covina Western Christian 37--Chadwick (26-1) raced to a 30-15 halftime lead at the Pyramid, and Western Christian (24-4) made only 16 of 50 field-goal tries. Diane Webber had 18 points and eight rebounds for Chadwick, which made only 20 of 68 shots but six of 12 three-pointers.
