TENNESSEE BASEBALL
* County connection: Jeff Pickler of Cypress College
* Worth noting: Pickler, a senior, hit .445 and was selected as the Southeastern Conference player of the year. He had 109 hits including 30 doubles and both were Tennessee single-season records. He had a 26-game hitting streak, had two hits or more in 20 games, and scored 79 runs. He reached base safely in 53 of 55 games.
LONG ISLAND SOFTBALL
* County connection: Kim Fischer of Irvine
* Worth noting: Fischer, a senior center fielder, was named first-team All-New York Collegiate Athletic Conference. She hit .323 overall and .455 in conference play. She set school records for career doubles (22) and games played (187).
TOWSON SOFTBALL
* County connection: Julia Cappelli of Esperanza
* Worth noting: Cappelli, a freshman catcher, hit seven home runs to lead the America East Conference and was second with 34 runs batted in. She hit .336 and had a 15-game hitting streak.
UC SANTA BARBARA TRACK
* County connections: Sabrina Caplis of Foothill
* Worth noting; Caplis, a junior, broke the school record in the 800 meters in 2 minutes 7.31 seconds April 26 at the Cal-Nevada Championships at Fresno State.
UCLA WOMEN’S WATER POLO
* County connection: Robin Beauregard of Marina
* Worth noting: Beauregard, a freshman two-meter player, scored to help the top-seeded Bruins defeat third-seeded California, 7-3, May 10 to win their third consecutive women’s water polo national collegiate championship. UCLA ended the season 35-1, and Beauregard, who had 48 goals for the season, was named to the all-tournament first team.
