The Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic will receive a $125,000 grant to help troubled youths remove tattoos, Gov. Pete Wilson announced Friday.
“Enabling at-risk youths to remove visible tattoos is one way of encouraging them to correct their course and choose a positive, productive lifestyle,” said Wilson in a statement, adding that 200 young people will be able to take advantage of the tattoo removal.
The California Youth Authority will provide laser equipment and monitor the program in Los Angeles and San Francisco, where proposals were selected from several submitted by community organizations.
The Hollywood clinic, a public and private collaboration that assists youth between the ages of 11 and 20, will provide the service to those referred by the Probation Department, juvenile law officers or other designated community organizations.
