Mirage Resorts has opened reservations for its Bellagio resort, due to open Oct. 15 on the Strip in Las Vegas. A Paris city landmark got a cap earlier this month when a $252,000 gold-leafed pyramid was placed atop the 107-foot-tall Egyptian obelisk at the center of the Place de la Concorde on the Champs-Elysees. The monument, carved in the 8th century BC, was given to France by an Egyptian viceroy in 1830. Historians believe its original cap was stolen in the 6th century BC. . . . A new Catalina Island tour combines kayaking with star-gazing, with 2 1/2-to-3-hour guided nighttime paddles followed by a telescope session.
