33 Speeding Citations Issued on Saticoy

VENTURA — Drive more than 25 mph on Saticoy Avenue between Telegraph and Foothill roads and chances are pretty good these days there will be a police officer waiting to issue you a speeding citation.
Or at least that is the message the Ventura Police Department was trying to pass along by conducting three stepped-up enforcement operations on Saticoy Avenue in the past two weeks, according to Police Cpl. John Turner.
Between 4 and 6 p.m. Wednesday, 33 speeding citations were issued. Turner said every driver was traveling faster than 40 mph, and one driver had topped 60 mph.
Police also arrested a man for driving without a license, which resulted in impoundment of the man’s car.
On May 15, the same operation ended with 44 speeding citations being issued. Five days later, 23 citations were issued, Turner said.
The stepped-up enforcement follows several other unsuccessful attempts to get drivers to slow down, Turner said. Police have posted additional 25 mph speed limit signs, restriped the road to prevent passing and deployed a radar trailer to allow drivers to monitor their own speeds.
Saticoy, which has several intersecting feeder streets, has a history of speed complaints and collisions, Turner said. The problem is so bad, the street has earned its way into a city study about roadways that need “traffic calming.”
