4 Sentenced to Death in Tax Fraud Case

Four people have been sentenced to death in a $760-million tax fraud case described by state media as China’s biggest. The tax fraud in the eastern province of Zhejiang involved 65,536 fake value-added-tax invoices from 218 companies, newspapers said. They did not give any details of how the fraud was carried out. Yang Shangrong, an official in the county Bureau of Finance, and three local businessmen were sentenced to death for their role, and 85 others were arrested, the newspapers said.
