Information Sought on Hit-Run Driver

NORTH HOLLYWOOD — Police are seeking information on a hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a Van Nuys teenager as he stood near the southbound shoulder of the Hollywood Freeway on Saturday night, just moments after the youth had survived another accident.
Following a three-car crash near Magnolia Boulevard that sent one car down a freeway embankment, Tyrone Mansel, 15, was apparently checking on other victims when he walked into a traffic lane and was struck by an unidentified motorist about 9 p.m., California Highway Patrol officials said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP Officer Ken Ford said.
Two others who were seriously injured in the first accident were taken to Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Panorama City, Ford said.
Hospital officials Sunday would not release information on their condition.
Mansel, who was not driving, escaped injury in the first accident, Ford said, adding that the teenager was killed when he walked into oncoming traffic from between two of the three damaged cars.
