A weekly look at the progress of former Orange County prep athletes now in college.
UPDATES
* Loyola Marymount soccer: Goalkeeper Tracy Sharp (Esperanza) was named the West Coast Athletic Conference’s defensive player of the year. Sharp, a sophomore, set school records with 12 1/2 shutouts and a 0.60 goals-against average. She already holds the school’s career record for shutouts with 17 1/2. Also honored by the conference was sophomore defender Heather Nelson (Esperanza), named to the second team. Loyola finished 12-2-5, the best women’s soccer record in school history.
* Hawaii volleyball: Heather Brown (Esperanza) was named Western Athletic Conference Pacific Division player of the year. Brown, a junior middle blocker who transferred from UC Santa Barbara, led the conference and was 13th in the country in hitting percentage. Also named to the conference’s first team was Jessica Sudduth (Esperanza).
