Wilson Offers $50,000 to Help Solve Killing

Nine months after a corrections officer was gunned down along the Riverside Freeway in Anaheim, the governor’s office is adding $50,000 to the reward pool in hopes of spurring a break in the case.
Elizabeth Ann Begaren, 40, an off-duty prison guard, was with her husband, Nuzzio, and his 10-year-old daughter in their Kia Sportage, heading home from a trip to the mall. Nuzzio Begaren told police a dark sedan chased them and ran them off the road, then four men got out, took $4,800 from them and shot and killed his wife.
No suspects have been named in the Jan. 17 homicide.
Gov. Pete Wilson’s office is offering $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for killing Begaren, who worked at the California State Prison-Los Angeles County in Lancaster. The California Correctional Peace Officers Assn. offered $10,000 shortly after the killing, and the state Department of Corrections offered $25,000 more.
