Gunshot Wound to Head Killed Infant, Coroner Reports

An Orange County coroner’s autopsy on an 8-month-old boy named Armani concluded only that the baby died of a single gunshot wound to the head, authorities said Monday.
The baby was shot by his mother, Shantae Molina, 20, who told police that the gun went off when she grabbed it after hearing what she thought was a prowler Friday afternoon. The baby died Friday evening after two operations.
Sheriff’s Lt. Hector Rivera said no further information on the infant’s fatal wound would be released at this time.
“It’s still under investigation,” he said.
Investigators have said the shooting appeared unintentional, and no one was arrested.
The shooting stunned neighbors and prompted some to reconsider whether they would continue to keep loaded guns in their homes.
