I am compelled to comment on letter writer Janet Asten’s opinion about Edith Stein (Oct. 16).

I take exception to Asten’s “however” remark, when she asks the question, “Will my Jewish people ever stop making demands for apologies?” Asten states that she was born Jewish and converted to Catholicism. Asten has a false understanding of what really happened to the Jewish people in Europe during World War II under the Nazi regime. Far too many countries cooperated with the Hitlerites, except for the people of Denmark, who saved most of their Jewish citizens. Asten oversimplifies “never forget.” I hope that her family was not murdered, along with the 6 million. Mine was. Once we were nine in all, and I am the only one left. I am still dealing with that pain.
