No. 2 UCLA (5-0, 3-0) at CALIFORNIA (4-2, 2-1)
- Share via
* Kickoff: 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Berkeley, Channel 7.
* Story line: The challenge for the Bruins comes not against a ranked team or an undefeated team, for a change, but against an upstart that has shown the ability to play a top-five team tough (ask Nebraska) or pull an upset (ask USC).
* UCLA update: After consecutive games against then-No. 10 Arizona in Tucson and then-No. 11 Oregon at home, the Bruins face a team that can cause problems defensively but is little threat to outscore them. Next are Stanford and Oregon State.
* Cal update: Both losses have been close, by 21 points to Nebraska on Sept. 12, but only after trailing by a very respectable 14-3 with four minutes left, and by eight points last week at Washington. The Bears have not played host to a team ranked this high in 10 years, since the 1988 Bruins also came in at No. 2. The Bears have not played host to anyone in about a month, thanks to two road games and a bye.
* Edge to UCLA: Bruins-Bears shouldn’t be a grizzly affair for UCLA.
* Line: UCLA by 14.
