All Tripped Out, Cox Decides on Fullerton

Jodie Cox of Quartz Hill High, The Times’ 1998 Valley softball player of the year, committed Thursday night to Cal State Fullerton.
Cox, a left-hander, selected the Titans after taking recruiting trips to Oklahoma, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cal State Northridge, Utah and Fullerton.
Cox was told she would receive an opportunity to pitch and bat for the Titans, one of several determining factors.
“I just felt I would fit in better [at Fullerton],” said Cox, who helped Quartz Hill win the 1998 Southern Section Division II championship. “It’s such a relief to have this over. I’ve been stressed since the beginning of summer. It’s seemed like forever.”
As a junior at Quartz Hill, Cox batted .455 with nine home runs and 31 runs batted in, and was 22-3 with 247 strikeouts and a 0.32 earned-run average.
