Special Education Center Breaks Ground for New Campus

A new campus for people with learning and developmental disabilities should be complete by the fall of 1999, officials said Tuesday at a groundbreaking ceremony.
The Educational Resources and Services Center’s 38,500-square-foot new facility will feature both a school and a center for clients with learning, emotional, developmental and other disabilities, said Henry Borenstein, director of development.
The $9-million center will be located on the site of the former Studio Drive-In theater, near the corner of Jefferson Boulevard and Machado Avenue.
The center, founded 18 years ago, will serve about 1,000 clients a year and enroll 250 students in classes from preschool through high school.
