Not-Guilty Plea Given in Video Case

A man accused of using a hidden video camera to film up women’s skirts in Fashion Island pleaded not guilty Wednesday.
David Wayne Lyman, 34, an Irvine software company employee, was arrested in August and charged with disorderly conduct, but prosecutors may have a hard time convicting him. Similar cases have failed on the grounds that people in public places cannot have a reasonable expectation of privacy.
Lyman, however, also faces two counts of parole violation. He has been twice convicted for peeping into people’s houses in the Irvine area.
According to authorities, Lyman hid a video camera in a carrying case and taped under three women’s skirts on Aug. 16. Police say the third woman screamed when she noticed what was happening, and her husband held Lyman until officers arrived.
