ARLETA — A 35-year-old woman who was shot by her husband in an attempted murder-suicide this weekend was upgraded to stable condition Monday, authorities said.
The unidentified woman filed a domestic violence report with Los Angeles police Sunday morning and officers escorted her home. Because her husband, Richard Ruiz, was not there, she told the officers that they could leave, police said.
She planned to move out of the house in the 13800 block of Wingo Street but was unable to leave for several hours, police said. Shortly after noon, neighbors called police to report a shooting. Police said Ruiz, 40, had apparently shot his wife, then himself.
He died Sunday at Northridge Hospital Medical Center.
