A collection of Southern California’s finest jazz musicians will gather at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center to honor jazz legend Betty O’Hara, 72, who is recuperating from a stroke suffered earlier this year.
Beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday, the Swinging Salute to Betty O’Hara will feature musicians Bob Couto, Jimmy Rich, Scott Hughes and singer Janet Carrol.
Although she will not perform at the event, O’Hara will attend as the guest of honor.
O’Hara, who plays the trombone and cornet, has been at the forefront of the jazz scene for most of her life and has performed with Bob Finch, the Chicago Six and the all-female big band Maiden Voyage.
Tickets cost $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students and $8 for children 12 and younger.
The Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center is at 3050 Los Angeles Ave.
For more information, call the center’s box office at 581-9940.
