NORTHRIDGE — A 23-year-old construction worker hit a power line while operating a trencher at Cal State Northridge and was shocked Tuesday morning.
He was listed in good condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, said Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The Pomona man, who was not identified, was injured when he leaned on a chain-link fence to get off the trencher.
“He made contact with the fence and completed the circuit,” Humphrey said. “He was shocked severely and began convulsing on the ground. We typically look above us for electrical hazards, but many exist below the ground.”
The man was a contractor, Humphrey said, not an employee of the construction company or CSUN.
Cal/OSHA investigators were looking into the accident, Humphrey said.
