Fiestas Patrias Parade to Include Host of Dignitaries

OXNARD — A weeklong celebration of Mexican independence continues Saturday with the Fiestas Patrias ’98 Parade. The event is sponsored by the Mexican Consulate in Oxnard.
Assemblyman Nao Takasugi will serve as grand marshal of the parade, which will include a host of other Ventura County dignitaries. The parade will also feature an equestrian procession with riders in traditional Mexican costumes and mariachi and marching bands.
The event begins at 11 a.m. at Wooley Road in downtown Oxnard and will proceed on A Street north to Robert Avenue.
The weeklong festivities, Las Fiestas Patrias Mexicanas, include a film festival, 5K marathon, art exhibit, a final ceremony and other cultural events. For more information, call 388-4416.
